The key points discussed on 6 March were the general low feeling throughout the industry, the numbers of landlords selling up and rent increases in Scotland and England. It was felt that the Renters Reform Bill, Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill were likely to be delayed with the upcoming election. Topical discussions were had on the rent-to-rent market, sourcing fees, dual fees, material information and future redress opportunities.
On 14 November, the election was over, and the meeting’s focus was the Renters Rights Bill with discussion highlights on agent’s need for changing practices with notices, charges, upfront rent, dealing with periodic tenancies only, pets, rent bidding wars and updating their documentation.
Looking into the future, redress and mediation was thought highly likely to have a more prominent place in the market.
