Our advisory panel has strengthened our governance and accountability
Panel members help us by representing areas across the industry and:
providing advice and guidance to the Head of Redress related to their area of expertise to raise industry standards
working with other panel members and the member panel on projects relating to specific areas of interest
offering feedback on the effectiveness of our processes and case management
Last year the panel experts worked with us to produce a guide on ‘sourcing fees’, which you can find in the resources section of our website.
The panel was selected to represent their areas of expertise across the industry and their focus is to work with us to provide a voice and promote understanding to the industry.

The work programme for 2024 that the advisory panel will be looking at will be to help provide guidance on:
property auctions (traditional and modern)
dual fees
The panel will also be looking at how the sector can make sure the guidance by Trading Standards on material information required for property transactions is successfully rolled out, and to look at how the proposed changes to the rental sector put forward by the Government will affect how redress is delivered.
The contribution from the advisory panel has been invaluable. The experience and insight from the group helped us produce a new guide for property sourcing and to update our rent-to-rent guides. Their feedback has also been used to enhance our discussions with government and National Trading Standards on proposed future changes and the impact these will have on the sector.
I am really pleased to have chaired the advisory panel in 2023 and look forward to this year’s programme of work. I appreciate, the breadth of knowledge and experience of the group, reflecting every aspect of the property sector and the people who work, regulate and benefit from the work scheme does. The scheme does deal with a lot of the poorer practices in the industry, so it is fantastic to see what good looks like and the standards, best practices and professionalism which should be promoted and adopted.
The property sector continues to expand and touches the lives of so many people, so it is important that our scheme reflects the widespread experiences and diversity in the sector. This will help us understand the challenges and frustrations in the sector which lead to complaints, and how we can put things right. The work the panel is doing to helping provide the education and advice our members need to help avoid, understand and resolve complainants is paramount. After all prevention is better than cure.
